Project Description

In September 2011 Metropolitan were contracted to design, install and commission a Photovoltaic system for an exciting new project in Longstanton, Cambridge. The objective for the building was to be completely sustainable, utilizing a number of technologies including Ground Source Heat Pumps, rain water harvesting and a Solar Photovoltaic System to name but a few.

Our Plan

With the modern design of the new eco-building, we had to make sure the new PV system was as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as possible. When working with the architects, we identified the ideal location for the new system and then worked to design the mounting system structure to house the new system. Once the designs were finalized, we then progressed to the installation phase. It took our team of engineers 2 days to completely install and commission the new system.

The Outcome

Metropolitan successfully installed the new 4.50kWp solar system to schedule, providing completely free and renewable energy to the building. The building has been designed in a way that all visitors to the Park & Ride center can see the renewable energy systems with detail on exactly how these system work and the help they are giving to our planet. To date, the system has supplied in excess of 5,500kWh to the local area, saving over 3,000kg of CO2.
